Peace and War 037
37) Clean Water vs. Contaminated Water
Normal Life
In normal times, clean water is easy to get. We simply turn on the tap. Safe drinking water lets us cook, drink, and wash without fear of disease. A reliable water system keeps families healthy and makes daily life comfortable. People can focus on work, school, and building a better future instead of worrying about basic needs.
Life During War
War destroys water systems. Clean water may stop flowing or become polluted with harmful chemicals and debris. Parents may have no choice but to give their children dirty water from unsafe rivers or ponds. A basic human need becomes something people must risk their lives to find or pay a very high price for. Every drop of water becomes precious. Families suffer from diarrhea, dehydration, and other diseases while living in dangerous conditions. The hope of having clean water again disappears along with peace.
Peace is the key to keeping the water of life clean and available for every family.
