Peace and War 036

36) High Survival Rate vs. Sadly High Death Rate

Normal Life

In peaceful times, newborn babies and elderly people receive the best care. Hospitals have modern equipment, vaccines, and good nutrition. Because of better medical care, more babies survive and grow up healthy. Older people also receive proper treatment and can live longer with dignity. A society that protects both the young and the old is a sign of peace and progress.

Life During War

War takes away safety and kindness. The survival rate of babies and elderly people drops sharply. Hospitals may be destroyed, and food and medicine become scarce. Parents may lose a newborn baby because there is no oxygen or clean baby formula. Elderly people may die earlier because they have no medicine or shelter from the cold. Homes that should be safe become dangerous places. Families lose both the "future" of the nation—its children—and the "roots" of the family—its grandparents. War leaves only grief and suffering.

Peace protects both the beginning and the end of life, allowing every person to live with safety and dignity.
