Peace and War 024
24) The Joy of Caring for Parents vs The Pain of Being Unable to Help
Normal Life
In peaceful times, taking care of our parents and giving them a good quality of life is both a duty and a source of pride. We can use our income to buy medicine, healthy food, and take them on trips so they can enjoy their later years. A stable income and reliable healthcare system give us confidence that they will receive proper care and live comfortably. It is our way of repaying their love and support by providing security for the family we have worked hard to build.
Life During War
When war destroys economic stability and safety, our ability to care for our parents is greatly weakened. Elderly people become one of the most vulnerable groups. Medicines for chronic illnesses may be unavailable, and even basic food may be difficult to find. We must watch the people who raised us suffer hardship during the stage of life when they should be resting peacefully. War can force families to choose between helping younger generations survive and caring for aging parents. The pain is difficult to describe when gratitude and duty are blocked by a conflict we did not create. Instead of peace and comfort, our parents may spend their final years in fear and sadness.
Peace protects the smiles of our parents and allows us to fulfill our role as children with pride.
