Peace and War 018
18) Plenty of Food vs Not Enough Food
Normal Life
Going to the supermarket on a holiday is a relaxing activity. We can choose our favorite fabric softener or buy our children's favorite snacks without much worry. We may complain when egg prices go up a little or compare cooking oil brands to save money. However, prices are usually stable, so we know our money will be enough for a good dinner. We can even save some money to buy a small gift for ourselves at the end of the month.
Life During War
War destroys transportation and damages the economy. Prices rise very quickly and become difficult to control. The money that once bought a full cart of food may now buy only a few eggs or a small bag of rice. Parents may stand in long lines for hours only to find empty shelves. The price of flour may become ten times higher overnight. Instead of choosing between brands, families worry about how many more days their children can eat enough food. War turns food into a cruel tool of pressure. Working people struggle with the high cost of living. Human dignity is reduced to a daily fight for food, paid for with tears and hard work.
Peace helps keep the value of our money, so it can become smiles around our children's dinner table.
